Thomas R. “Bob” Sexton, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 9, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Burial with military honors will be in the Downey Cemetery, Downey, Iowa.
Thomas Robert Sexton was born March 6, 1930, in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Harry and Agnes (Jensen) Sexton. He attended Downey School. He served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952. He was a semi truck driver and farmed in the West Branch area for many years. He enjoyed stock car and NASCAR racing as well as watching all sports.
He is survived by two sons, Jerry (Tammy) Sexton and Bobby (Laurie Dauber) Sexton, both of West Branch; six grandchildren, Toni (Shaun Hansel) Sexton, Tara (Zack) Thomas, J. D. (Jenna) Sexton, Jackie (J. J. Hayslett) Sexton, McKenna Sexton and Kaleb Sexton; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence (Marilyn) Sexton of Downey and Paul (Myrt) Sexton of West Branch; one sister, Laura Slach of West Branch; and four sister-in-laws, Althea Sexton of Washington, Rosemary Sexton of West Branch, Dorothy Sexton of Lone Tree and Doris (Doug) Ratliff of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, George, Maynard, Roscoe, John and Bill Sexton.
