Esther E. Maybank, age 81 of Cheboygan passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at her home. She was born May 7, 1935 in Dollarville, Mich., the daughter of Armond and Lena (Charboneau) Michelin. On May 7, 1960, Esther married Frank Maybank at St. Charles Catholic Church. Esther was in the first graduating class at Cheboygan Catholic High School in 1953. She had worked as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone Company, Straits Area Federal Credit Union as a teller and Starline Mackinac Island Ferry as a ticket seller. She was a member of the Cheboygan County Genealogy Association and had traced her family roots back as far as 850 AD. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing Bingo and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Frank of Cheboygan, five children; Dale (Debbie) Maybank and Curtis Maybank, both of New Orleans, La., Tracy (Patricia) Maybank of Los Angeles, Calif., MaryLee Maybank of Cheboygan and Kelley (Brian) Vilenski of Interlochen, four siblings; Norm (Jackie) Michelin of Trenton, Mary (Joe) Costello of Monroe, Mike (Gina) Michelin of Cape Girardeau, Mont., and Colleen Michelin of Cheboygan, six grandchildren; Maximiliaan, Sean, Amanda, Cody, Joey and Josh, one great granddaughter, Kaitlyn and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jerry and Gene. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Paul Megge will officiate. Memorial contributions in Esther’s name may be directed to Bishop Baraga School.
