Viola Cook Ferguson passed away Saturday, December 25, 2010, at Wexford House in Kingsport.

Born in Lyndon, Virginia, she was the first child of Virgil Eugene and Nora Couch Cook. She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church. Viola retired from First National Bank in Kingsport to open a Merle Norman cosmetics business in Norton, Virginia. With Viola serving as President, the Business and Professional Women's Club in Kingsport took on the project of establishing a Girls Club in Kingsport, of which she was the first Board President. Her proudest accomplishment, other than her own children, was in bringing this dream to reality with the Girls Club, now known as Girls Inc., still empowering young girls in Kingsport to be the best that they can be.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys Perrigan, Barbara Cook, Nina White and a brother, Melvin Eugene Cook.

Surviving are her daughters, Linda Long and husband, Bill, Kathy McNutt and husband, Tom, and son, Frank Ferguson, Jr. and wife, Evelyn; grandchildren, Heather Hicks, April Nelson, Misti Hill, Shayna McNutt; three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; sisters, Shirley Sproles of Castlewood, Virginia and Blanche Vance of Abingdon, Virginia; one brother, Bruce Cooke of Blountville, Tennessee.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff, especially the 200 Wing and Activities Department, of Wexford House for their loving care.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 29th, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Addington and Pastor Charles Roberts officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 30th at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia.
