Mrs. Lena Flurry Snow White, age 90, of Dobson passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning December 6, 2016 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Surry Co. on May 13, 1926 to the late Elmer and Lillie Mae Davis Snow. She attended Draughons Business College after graduating high school in 1944. She left College in October of 1945 to marry the love of her life. She was a homemaker from then until 1969 when she went to work as a bookkeeper at Royal Drug Company in Elkin. She left there in 1977 to work for Merritt Machine and Supply in Mount Airy in their bookkeeping position. She retired in 2003 after beginning part time work there in 1995. As a part time worker she began to volunteer at Central Middle School in Dobson for several years. She then started volunteering at White Plains School for a total of 14 years at both places. She loved all the kids and they loved her, calling her granny. She was named Volunteer of the Year by Surry County Schools for the 2006-2007 school year. She also volunteered every week at the Foothills Food Pantry in Dobson from 2001 until 2014. She also had an inhome tax service for at least 25 years until 2014. She always loved her coustomers and serving them. She was no stranger to several nursing homes in the area where she started going on a regular basis in 1991 until 2014. She had a passion for cooking and was one of the "best" around. She was well known throughout the community for her servant heart. She was a firm believer in putting others first and doing all you could do to help others. She loved getting and receiving hugs, always hugging anyone she was introduced to. Lena will be greatly missed by her family and friends, whose lives she brightened with her love, her humor and her service. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Carvle White; three sisters Gertrude Key, Annie Riddle, Ova White; three brothers Perry Snow, Merritt Snow, Wade Snow; step-grandchild Ricky Ray Eaton Jr.; great-grandchild Caleb Vernon. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years for various age groups. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law Carolyn Byrd of High Point, Kathryn and Wayne Edmonds of Dobson; three sons and daughter-in-law Ron White and fiancé Jolene Mitchell of Winston Salem, Arnold White of Pinnacle and Marlene Guyer of State Road, Keith and Rosita White of King; grandchildren Scott and Melissa Vernon, Tracy and Ryan Bullins, Benson White, Madison White, step-grandchildren Jeff and Deanna Edmonds, Joel Edmonds, Josh and Nicole Edmonds, Maria Soto, Jerry and Chelsey Soto, great-grandchildren Connor and Colbie Vernon , step-great-grandchildren Callie, Brady, and Jacob Edmonds; Kalei, Aubry, Bryana, Cameron, Brody , Raelyn Soto, Jathan, Evan Eaton; sisters Fern Poindexter and Dot Brown of Dobson; brother and sister-in-law Mack and Patsy Snow of Dobson; twenty-seven special nieces and nephews. Special friends Dr. Bruce Goodson, Ann Goodson and children; caretakers Greta Wallace, Jean Hemmings, Cheryl Ledford; special people too numerous to name here who considered Lena to be a second mama to them; several other special friends who were very loyal to her. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Blue Bryan and Rev. Dan Merritt will conduct the services. Her body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home until carried to the church to lie in state 30 min. before the service. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Memorial Benevolence Fund at Fairview Baptist Church c/o Tommy Edmonds, 7659 NC 268, Dobson, NC 27017 or Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson NC, 27017.
