Relatives here received word of the death of Alvaro S. Krotz, 90, of Rockton, Ill., a former Defiance county resident.
Mr. Krotz, brother of Mrs. C.S. Latchaw, died Thursday night following a heart attack. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Rockton.
A son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Brubaker) Krotz, he was reared on the present C.S. Latchaw farm.
Other survivors include his wife, the former Grace Shirley of Defiance; two daughters; two sons; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews in Defiance, Mrs. Ora Symonds, Mrs. Frank F. Hall, Mrs. Clara Hummer, William Kronz and Charles K. Latchaw.
Mr. Kronz, a pioneer inventor in the auto industry, was credited with more than 100 automotive innovations. They included the first notched tire as well as development of the first Willard auto storage battery.

Locally Krotz was remembered as a patent attorney and consulting engineer. He had been a designer at the Janesville Machine Company and at the Samson Tractor Co. was employed at the experimental department. When the Chevrolet plant opened in Janesville he went to Massey-Harris Co., in Racine.
