1947 ~ 2016
Our Hero, Brent Earl Chapman, 69, passed away at his home with his family by his side on December 4, 2016. He was born February 17, 1947 to Earl Chapman and LaRue Briggs Chapman Abel, and was loved beyond words by his step-mother, Dorothy Chapman. He married his sweetheart, Margo Leonard on June 27, 1969.
Brent was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend. He proudly served two tours of duty in Vietnam, 1967-1968, with the United States Navy. He was employed by UTA for 35 years and retired shortly after assisting with the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
Twenty years after his Vietnam experience, he began his healing process. He and Margo built their dream cabin in Coalville, Utah with help from friends and family. Many memories will forever be shared with all those who have spent time at his campfire. He got involved with the Vet Center in Salt Lake, where he was able to bond with other veterans in the writers group. They helped him to put his experiences and memories on paper. He authored his autobiography in a book titled, "Wide-Eyed Over; Red-Eyed Coming Home," available on Amazon. He was a true hero and patriot.
Survived by his beautiful wife of 47 years, Margo Leonard Chapman; father, Earl (Dorothy) Chapman; three beautiful daughters, Natalie (Shawn) Atkinson, Nikki (Greg) Jensen, Abbie (Shane) Roberts; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Mason, Payton, Autumn, Amber, Chapman, Peter, Rachel and Grace; five great-grandchildren, Auralie, Lea, Annie, Michael, and Thea; brother, Steven Chapman; sister, Kim (Cory) Christensen; step brothers and sisters, cousins and many friends. Preceded in death by his mother, LaRue Briggs Abel, brother, Scott Chapman, and Margo's parents, Jack and Miriam Leonard.
