Reed was born February 28, 1937 to William Amos Dreaden and Fannie Mae Matlock Dreaden. He was the 9th child. Brothers are Bill, Dan, and James. Sisters are Estelle, Gertie, Ruby, Willean and Elizabeth. Reed married Shirley Ann Campbell on October 1, 1958 at church of Christ in Riverside, California. They had two daughters, Janine Lee Dreaden Langley (Andrew) and Leslie Dreaden Phares (David) Reed served two years in the U.S. Army and three years in Tennessee National Guard. He spent 36 years, 10 months working for the DuPont Company in New Johnsonville, Tennessee. He was elected to the following offices: Humphreys County Historian, Justice of the Peace (Magistrate), County Commissioner, President of Meriwether Lewis Board of Directors, Vice-President of Tennessee Electric Cooperataive Board of Directors, Vice-President Lakeside Credit Union Board of Directors, Five Rivers RC&D Board of Directors, President of Humphreys County Historical Society, 911 Board of Directors, and President of Friends of Johnsonville Historic Park.
