A memorial service will be held on Thursday December 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 18 West 6 Street, Front Royal.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. C. Wayne Woodard and Elder Gary Utz officiating.
Mrs. Dawson was born on October 6, 1919 in Bentonville, Virginia daughter of the late James Milton Jenkins and Julia Ann Curry Jenkins.
She was the last surviving member of 12 siblings.
She was married to the late George W. Dawson.
Mrs. Dawson had a strong will to live and a very independent lady. She was loved by many and was known for her love of cooking, baking, sewing, and her specialty was her homemade bread. Mrs. Dawson made many beautiful wedding gowns and baby clothes, and was known for her art of fine crafting. Mrs. Dawson had such a wonderful heart and would help out with many church functions and events with her cookies, bread, and any dessert or food they might need. She will be long remembered for her sweet smile and her caring and vigorous spirit.
Surviving are a son, Richard Dawson and wife, Elizabeth, of Chesterfield, Virginia; one daughter, Patricia "Patty" Dawson Gallahon of King George, Virginia; one foster daughter, Monica Lisa Cantrell of Winchester, Virginia; five grandchildren; 3 foster grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the South Warren Volunteer Fire Department, 3330 Stonewall Jackson HWY, Bentonville, VA 22610.
Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street Front Royal, Virginia.
