Deceased Name: Alphonse P. Bauer

92, of Oconomowoc, formerly of West Bend, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at the Shorehaven Health Center in Oconomowoc.

He was born Sept. 27, 1911 in West Bend to the late Pater and Elizabeth (nee Thoma) Bauer and married Virginia M. Lavelle on June 13, 1936 in Milwaukee. Virginia preceded him in death in 1994.

Alphonse was raised in West Bend. Following their marriage, they moved to Milwaukee where Alphonse entered the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was involved in the battle for Iwo Jima. Following his discharge he became a police officer for the Milwaukee Police Department. After his retirement, they moved back to West Bend where he worked as a bailiff for the Washington County Sheriff's Department. In his spare time he enjoyed playing and watching golf.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Kallenbach of Oconomowoc; daughter-in-law Kathy Bauer of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Susan (Matt) Hurlburt of Oconomowoc, Christian (Mary) Kallenbach of Columbia, S.C., Matthew Bauer and Deanna Bauer, both of Milwaukee; five great-grandchildren, Dan, Brad and Kristen Hurlburt and Nicole and Krista Kallenbach. He is further survived by a brother, Paul (Jayne) of Green Bay; a sister-in-law, Jeanne (Ray) Reilly of Waukesha; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by a son, Thomas; a son-in-law, William Kallenbach; and a sister, Gertrude Bauer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church in West Bend with Rev. Michael Petersen presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday at the church only from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Masses or memorials are appreciated.
