Roy Lee Buchanan, 83, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2016 at Holston Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Roy was born in War, West Virginia on October 15, 1932 and grew up in Wise County, Virginia.

He was the son of Barney William Buchanan and Maggie Edith Carty.

Roy served in the United States Army during the Korean War from February 1953 until February 1955. He was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland and assigned to gun batteries defending the Atlantic Coast. While stationed in Maryland, Roy met Olga Virginia Lutz. They were married on June 30, 1954. Roy and Ginger moved to Orlando, Florida in 1958 where he was employed by Lockheed-Martin. Roy was a supervisor in the production of Patriot missiles. He moved to the Tri-Cities with his family in 1968 to become a supervisor at Univac, later the Unisys Corporation as a supervisor over the production of cable harnesses for computers. Roy retired in 1986 to his small farm. Roy and Ginger owned and operated Island Road Grocery for a few years before working as a security guard at the Valley Brook Farm in Gray. As a hobby, Roy built HO scale model train layouts. He was handy with tools and remodeled the old farm house that he had purchased in the early 70's.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, "Ginger" in 1997; brothers Barney, Jr., Eugene, and Don; and sisters Ruth Davis, Joetta Burkette, and Stacy Buchanan.

Roy is survived by his wife, Geraldine Evans who he married on April 12, 2003; three daughters, Tracy Moore & husband Rick, Theresa Blair & husband Donald, and Penny Jarrett & husband John; brothers, Ralph & wife Joyce, Bill & wife Jean, Marvin & wife Susan; sister, Faye Starbird & husband Ed, all live in the Atlanta Metro Area; five grandchildren, Christopher Moore & wife Ashley, Rachel Poley & husband Bryan, Sarah Gilmore & husband Dave, Kelly Cline and Michelle Cline; six great-grandchildren, Noel Cline, Alexander Poley, Gemma Poley, Isabella Gilmore, Elliana Gilmore, and Ansley Moore; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday (October 15, 2016) at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church (213 Colonial Heights Road Kingsport, TN 37663) with the Rev. Thomas Phillips, Lead Minister officiating.

Roy will be laid to rest at the Temple Hill Memorial Park (2529 Memorial Drive Castlewood, VA. following the funeral service at 2 p.m. with military rites provided by American Legions Posts 3/265.
