Lee Pinkney Jones was born Jan 24, 1880 in Pickens County, Georgia to Rial Tolliver Jones and Nancy Elizabeth Thompson. He was one of 8 known children of this couple.

He was married on November 19, 1919 to Stella Gladys Kelley, daughter of William Henry Kelley and Nancy (Nannie) Evaline Dodd in New Mexico. The Kelley's were in New Mexico because the son Shelby had tuberculosis and according to the doctors needed a drier climate. The father, William Henry Kelley died in Cleburne, Texas in 1915 from Tuberculosis. In fact, it seems that many members of the Kelley family died from Tuberculosis.

Lee and Stella were parents to four children... Nancy Elizabeth, Anna Beatrice, Virginia May, and Shelby Lee Jones. Shelby, the son, died in infancy being less than a year old at the time of his death.

Lee Pinkney Jones died on Feb 22, 1958 in Phoenix, Arizona. His body was brought back to New Mexico by train. He is interred next to his wife and infant son.
