A native of Haywood County and lived in Mars Hill since 1989, she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Mae Rogers Hyatt. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Ray Carter, who died in 1969; four sisters, Georgia Williams, Helena Allen, Ina Frady and Jincie Ferguson; and one brother, Allen Hyatt. Bernice retired from Dayco Corporation from the Quality Control Department, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mars Hill. Bernice enjoyed working around the house, reading and spending time with her family.
Bernice is survived by one daughter, Grace Carter Ray, of Mars Hill; one sister, Flora Glavich, of Waynesville; one brother, Alna Hyatt, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Nancy Ray Hoglen, and her husband, Johnny, of Canton and Timothy Allen Ray, and his wife, Georgina, of Mars Hill; three great-grandchildren, Haley and Carter Ray and Gracelyn Hoglen.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from
2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.
