AGE 93 YEARS
UNITED STATES COAST GUARD VETERAN of WW II

Anna R. Barnes, of Williamsport, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at the Williamsport Home.
She was a daughter of William A. and Verna (Stuck) Compton. Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles Robert Barnes Sr., on Nov. 8, 2007.

Anna was a 1940 graduate of Williamsport High School and a served in U.S. Coast Guard during WWII.

She worked as an inspector at Shop-Vac for 15 years. Anna was a huge sports fan. She was a member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church for over 75 years and sang in the church choir for over 65 years.

Surviving are three children Charles R. Barnes Jr., of Williamsport, Dennis W. Barnes, of Glen Burnie, Md. and Susan L. Breen (Michael), of Rayville, Mo.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Vallonia Babb, Blanch Yaggi, and George, William, and Kenneth Compton.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Jay E. Jones officiating.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Montoursville Cemetery.
