Marion L. Wise, 96, passed away peacefully after a long decline and a short illness on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at her home in Paso Robles, with her son and a friend at her side. She was born in 1917 in Lamoni, Iowa, where she was raised and educated and also where she met and married her future husband, W. Max Wise, who preceded her in death in 1998.

Her 59-year marriage to Max, a distinguished educator, took Marion many places to live, including San Antonio, Texas; Denver; New York City, three separate times; Gainesville, Fla.; Tokyo; St. Louis; Stonington, Conn.; and Paso Robles.

Marion lived with great zest and a warm, loving disposition. Her many interests included cultivating friendships and gardens, gourmet cooking, antique collecting, home remodeling and rug hooking, practiced as a fine art.

Marion and Max restored a 200-year-old home in Stonington and filled it with period pieces before their move to Paso Robles in 1991.

She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for more than 60 years, having served as State Treasurer in Florida and was the local chapter president in several places.

Marion was beloved for her enthusiasm and warmth by all who knew her. Marion is survived by her son; her daughter; and two granddaughters. Her and her husband’s ashes will be interred in Lamoni, where it all began. At their request, no service will be held. *

These poor lines do small justice to her wonderful life. Fond and loving farewell.

* Names of survivors removed to protect their privacy.
