UNITED STATES ARMY VETERAN OF WW II

Leon M. OERTLY of 8284 Frenchtown Rd., Cochranton and formerly of 315 Woodland Ave., Johnsonburg, died Friday morning, Dec. 2, 2016 at Marquette Hospice House in Meadville.

He was born Sept. 23, 1924 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Otto and Iva Weir Oertly On April 14, 1951, he married Marian Loncoske. She preceded him in death July 7, 2008.

Leon resided in Johnsonburg most of his life where he built his own home and lived with his wife Marian and three children. He attended Johnsonburg schools and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Johnsonburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.

He was a WWII Army veteran serving as a PFC as a dog trainer and handler for the K-9 Detachment out of Fort Robinson, Nebraska. Leon retired from Penntech Papers after many years of service.

He is survived two daughters, Linda, Mrs. Rob Obenreder of Silver Spring, Maryland and Janet Oertly and her husband Rock Hughes of Summerset, South Dakota; one son, Joel Oertly and his wife Patricia (Goss) of Cochranton and four grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, LeRoy, Bobby and Edward Oertly; four sisters, Dorothy B. Halquist, Margery Armstrong, Betty Brinkley and Ruth Oertly, in infancy; and a half-brother, Herbert Weir.

Interment will be in Oakmont Cemetery, Ridgway.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail.
