Willie Ray Willmann, 96, passed from this life to reside in heaven on November 23, 2016. Ethel, his wife of 67 years, was by his side to the end.

Willie Ray was born on September 22, 1920 to the late Marvin Fritz Willmann and Ruth (Eaker) Willmann in the home of his grandparents (Hiram & Dona (Capps) Eaker) near Willow Creek on Brockman Lane in North Mason County. He attended the Capps School at Fly Gap and graduated from Sonora High School in 1938.

He married Ethel Julia Sagebiel of Eckert, Texas (Gillespie County) in Zion Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, Texas on January 5, 1949.

Willie Ray was a veteran of World War II when he served in the Army Air Corps, 15th Air Force, in Italy. He liked to discuss those years and his experiences. He spent his years in Mason County as a rancher and farmer, raising cattle, Angora goats, swine and sheep and farming peanuts. He enjoyed raising Registered Angora billies, a good peanut crop, a good calf, and fat hogs.

Willie Ray was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mason, Texas since 1949. He served as an usher, was a member of the Church Brotherhood, and was on the church council and on the building committee that remodeled the Fellowship Hall and Sunday School building.

Willie Ray thought that it was important to support and be involved in community organizations and activities. He served in a number of committees and organizations in Mason County and West Texas. Of these organizations, several meant a great deal to him. He served for 14 years as the Chairman of the Mason County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee (today’s USDA Farm Service Agency Committee), was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Texas Electric Cooperative for 3 years, and was Director Emeritus of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and the Mohair Council. He was also proud to be on the Mason Junior Livestock Show Association when it built the new stock show facility and community center.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Ira Glen Willmann.

He is survived by his wife, his son, David Ray Willmann, and his wife, Diane, of Llano, Texas, his son, Karl Douglas Willmann and wife, Sandy, of Houston, Texas, and his daughter, Janet Jane Willmann, of Fredericksburg, Texas; by grandchildren, Ryan Willmann, Jordan Willmann Baker and husband, John David Baker, Ross Willmann and wife Jill, Davis Willmann, Korey Willmann and wife, Bethanie, Kristen Willmann, and Isabella Willmann; and greatgrandchildren Reagan Baker, David Baker, Addison Willmann, Emma Willmann, Leila Willmann, Elise Willmann and Kate Willmann.
