Death due to the Influenza Pandemic of 1889-1890.
From Philadelphia Inquirer Jan 7 1890:
DEATH OF BUTLER KENNER HARDING - A short illness with the grip which developed into pneumonia - Butler Kenner Harding, son of George Harding, the well known patent lawyer, is adding to the list of victims of the grip. Mr Harding died yesterday morning at his residence, 2027 Chestnut Street.
The death of Mr Harding is a very sad affair. He was married October 23, 1889 to Miss Annie, the handsome daughter of ex-Minister to France John Bigelow, at Highland Falls, on the Hudson, New York. He had but recently returned from his wedding trip and was temporarily domiciled with his father. The young man had just passed 26 years of age. He was admitted to the bar June 1887, and had developed such promising abilities that his father had placed in his charge the bulk of his practice. Prior to his admission to the bar he had graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with distinction. The death of Butler Kenner Harding makes the third in the family within a year. The grip seized him about ten days ago, and after an illness of days it developed into pneumonia and caused his death.
