Rhoades was a serial murder sentenced to death for these three crimes:

On the morning of March 1, 1987, the body of 21-year-old Stacy Baldwin was found off a rural road about five miles northwest of Blackfoot. She had been shot three times. Law enforcement initially thought that her murder was part of a robbery since she was a night-shift clerk at a nearby convenience store.

Then on the morning of March 17, 1987, 20-year-old Nolan Haddon was found in the walk-in freezer of another Blackfoot convenience store. Haddon had been shot five times. He was rushed to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he died a few hours later.

On March 21, 1987, the body of 34-year-old Susan Michelbacher was found in a desolate lava field about seven miles west of Idaho Falls. She had been abducted from the parking lot of an Idaho Falls supermarket, raped and shot to death.

According to IDOC directive 312.02.01.001, should there be no family to claim the body, a non-family member may wish to claim it. If there is no claim, the body will be cremated and stored, and if no person comes forward within one year to claim the ashes, they will be disposed of at a location determined by IDOC.
Upon a timely application, if the requirements of indigency and residency are met, Ada County will pay an amount established by the Board of County Commissioners to pay for the cremation or burial of deceased Ada County residents or unclaimed bodies.Paul Rhoades died at the age of 54, executed by lethal injection. He was convicted of the three murders on different occasions in 1987, of Stacy Dawn Baldwin-21, Nolan Haddon-23, and Susan Michelbacher-34.He was 30 at times of murders. Susan was robbed, raped, and shot 9 times, a Special Ed Teacher. Stacy was shot several times with a handgun, died an hour and a half later. Nolan was shot five times at his store and left in a Walk-In Cooler. Paul began drinking at age 10 and was a High School Drop-Out, then became a Meth Addict. He suffered Polio as a child. His last meal was: Hot Dogs, Sauerkraut, mustard, ketchup, onions, relish, Baked Beans, Veggie Sticks, Ranch Dressing, Jello with Fruit, and Strawberry Ice Cream. His last words were: "I am sorry for the part I played in your wife's death." (Referring to Susan-to her husband) He denied the other crimes, saying: "I can't help you, you still have to keep looking. I'm sorry for your family, I can't help you." Then to the Warden-I forgive you, I really do." He was on death row 24 years.
