Michael A. Schwering, 67, of Colusa, Illinois, passed away at 3:02 PM, Monday, November 14, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Illinois. Michael was born May 15, 1949, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, the son of David and Theresa Schwering. While serving in the United States Army, he married Anna Zuspann on December 17, 1968, in Vermillion, South Dakota. Michael and Anna lived in Keokuk, IA for 29 yrs before moving to Colusa in 2007. Michael was a plumber and retired after thirty-four years with the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison, Iowa. He loved cruising and raising cocker spaniels. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed going pheasant hunting and trap shooting. Michael is survived by his wife Anna Schwering of Niota, Illinois; three children: Chad (Starr) Schwering of Kokomo, Indiana, Tammy West (Robert Hardman) of Lexington, Kentucky and Anthony (Christina) Schwering of Seneca, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Trever, Bethany, Ashley, Jacob, Courtney, Faith, Dillon and Caitlyn; one great granddaughter Eva; two brothers, William Schwering of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and Richard Schwering of Snellville, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald. A gathering to celebrating Michael's life will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Thursday, November 17, 2016, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers at 917 Blondeau in Keokuk. Burial will be at a later date at Keokuk National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Heart Association or to the family.
