Obituary:

Hazel Mildred McCoy, daughter of the late Henry and Hazel Marie (Starks) Van De Venter, was born February 4, 1928, in Waterloo, Iowa, and departed this life December 4, 2016, in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center of Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 88 years of age.

Mildred was raised in Wright County, Missouri and was a Mountain Grove High School graduate with the class of 1945. After graduating, she taught school for 2 years. She was united in marriage to Henry McCoy on October 25, 1947 in Mountain Grove. Three children were born to this union. Along with raising her family, Mildred worked at Fort Leonard Wood in the civil service for several years.

Mildred enjoyed being outdoors, especially riding her Gator. She also enjoyed spending time on the farm, hosting family and friends, and playing pool. She liked taking trips with her family as well. She was a loving mother who was very proud of her family, especially her grandsons: Austin and Nathan.

Mildred was saved and baptized and was a longtime member of the Embree Community Church where she served as secretary for many years. She had also served as treasurer for the Dutch Chapel Cemetery for many years.

Besides her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband: Henry McCoy; one son: Dennis McCoy; an infant daughter: Diana McCoy; five brothers; and one sister.

Mildred is survived by one son: Terry McCoy and wife, Sharon, of Lynchburg, Missouri; two grandsons: Austin and Nathan McCoy; one sister: Velva Loy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three nephews: Van McCoy and Dean McCoy, both of Springfield, Missouri, and Jerry Loy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one niece: Marilee Earle of Huddleston, Virginia; a cousin: Mary Ann Briggs of Lisbon, Iowa; numerous other nephews and nieces; and a host of relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.
