Ronald D. Oehlert, 85, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in Hampton, Iowa. He was born on May 11, 1931, in Hampton, Iowa, to Edward and Edna (Pickering) Oehlert. Ron attended school in Hampton. He was united in marriage to Rita Murphy on June 25, 1954, in Hampton, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952. Ron worked as a lineman for REC. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton, the American Legion and the Hampton Senior Center. For several years after retirement, Ron and Rita enjoyed wintering in Las Vegas. Ron enjoyed playing golf, going to Iowa Hawkeye football games and working in his yard. In later years, he enjoyed bingo and companionship at the Hampton Senior Center. Ron is survived by his sons Randy (Lucy) Oehlert of Hampton, Iowa, Tim Oehlert of Hampton, Iowa, daughter Zoe (Mel) Brown of Hampton, Iowa, grandchildren, Chad (Amy) Oehlert of Urbandale, Iowa, Chris Oehlert of Sheffield, Iowa, Blake Brown of Hampton, Iowa, great-grandchildren Olivia and Kaelan Oehlert of Urbandale, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita, an infant grandson, brother Robert Oehlert, and sister Alice Mae Maassen.
