Bill was born August 19, 1942 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late William Allen and Emma Mae Ward Allen. He graduated from Fairforest High School in 1960.
Bill joined the U.S. Navy in August 1960 and served on the U.S.S. Manley until July 1962.
For most of his career, Bill was in Finance, working 21 years with M&J / Lincoln Finance, and serving as Finance Manager for many years within the Automobile industry. In his earlier days, he was an avid golfer and a phenomenal piano player. Bill was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and Steward. He was also an active volunteer for Hospice. Bill was very involved socially, having served in numerous positions such as Exalted Ruler and State President of the Elks, as was also a member of the Catawba Masonic Lodge #248 AF and AM and a longstanding member of the Oasis Shriner's Temple. Bill was also a member of the Hardee's breakfast bunch, along with long time buddy Horace Isenhower.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gayle Elaine Fowler Allen as well as a brother, Crawford Allen.
He is survived by his son Jeff Allen and wife Sandy of Charlotte, and his daughter Suzanne Allen Seagle and husband Jeff of Hickory, a sister Shirley Allen Millwood and husband Doug of Inman, S.C. and a brother Larry Dean Allen and wife Linda of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Bill has four grandchildren, Morgan Allen Davis, Spencer Allen, Heather Seagle and Hailey Seagle.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Newton. Reverend Brant Hoots will be officiating. A receiving of friends will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church.
Memorials can be made Trinity Baptist Church or to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
