Elizabeth Hamrick Brady, 85, died peacefully on December 2, 2016, with her family by her side. Known to all as “Liz,” she was born August 20, 1931, in Shelby, NC, to Charles Oren and Margaret Wellmon Hamrick. In 1953, Liz graduated cum laude from Meredith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. Her love of science led her to work in the biochemistry lab at the now WFU Baptist Medical Center under Dr. Camillo Artom.

Liz married John Blake Brady on August 28, 1954, and they have lived in Winston-Salem since. Together they raised three daughters on Paddington Lane and many in the neighborhood have remained lifelong friends.

Liz was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was active in many capacities, especially enjoying the Chapel Class and activities with the Senior Adult group. She enjoyed volunteering at the Nature Science Center, was a founding member of Flower Lore Garden Club, enjoyed playing tennis and serving on the board of Winston-Salem Tennis, Inc., and loved duplicate bridge and her Hello Bridge Club.

The Brady family is extremely grateful for the wonderful staff in Strickland Place at Arbor Acres who lovingly cared for Liz. We also appreciate the guidance and care Hospice provided.

Liz is survived by John, her loving and faithful husband of 62 years; her three daughters Lynn Brady Womble (Bob) of Raleigh, NC, Elizabeth Brady Duckett (Chuck), and Mary Blake Brady White (Ernie) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Robert Womble (Katherine), Margaret Womble, Betsy Harris (Robby), John Duckett, Carolyn Duckett, Margaret White, Lizzie White, Mary Catherine White; and three great-grandchildren Liza, Tripp and Charlie Harris. She is also survived by her sister Celeste Roberts, her sister-in-law Sara Ellen Hamrick, both of Shelby, NC, and was predeceased by her brother, Julian Wellmon Hamrick.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 5, at Centenary United Methodist Church, with visitation to follow in the church auditorium. There will also be a visitation at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 6, in Robinson Hall at Arbor Acres.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 West Fifth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101; Arbor Acres Residents’ Assistance Fund, 1240 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104; or a charity of one’s choice.
