Born June 18, 1941 in San Diego, California. Mike passed away on May 16, 2015, after an illness. He was 73 years old.
Mike Sample had a 30-year career in fire service. He started as a 17 year old firefighter for the California Department of Forestry. He went on to serve as a firefighter in the Air Force before going into fire service for the aerospace industry at McDonnell Douglas Corp. Mike then served as Fire Chief in Yuma, Arizona, before accepting the Fire Chief position in Livermore, California. He served in this position for 8 years.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Peggy Sample; son Mark Sample and wife Niki Sample of Brentwood; daughter Jill Sample and husband Mark Shackelford of San Jose, as well as, three grandsons, Brayden Sample, Keene Sample and Liam Shackelford. Mike is also survived by his three brothers, sister, and their families.
Funeral mass for Mike Sample will be held Thursday, June 18th at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cupertino, California (10110 N. De Anza Blvd). A reception lunch will follow the mass.
