David Benjamin Burnett, age 73, and longtime Irving resident, died at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 2, 2016. He was born on June 10, 1943 to John Dial and Helen Jeannette (Cox) Burnett in Dallas, Texas. David earned a full music scholarship to Henderson County Junior College, served in the United States Army Intelligence Corp, stationed at Fort Sam Houston. He later pursued a bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University in Denton and also took courses at Texas Baptist College in Arlington. He was a licensed Minister working in the Dallas prison ministries. David began working in the freight business, and worked his way into management until his retirement. He was an avid reader who enjoyed the outdoors and family gatherings. David is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers John, Paul and Michael Burnett. Left to cherish his memory is daughter Kim Burnett Kirk and husband Jonathan; son David Anthony Burnett & wife Brenda Atherton; granddaughters Emily and Peyton Burnette and their mother Renee Lopez; grandsons Ethan and James Kirk; granddaughter Katelyn Kirk; nephew John Burnett Jr. and wife Lola; nephew Paul Burnett Jr. and wife Shawnteh; niece Paula Burnett Cotton along with numerous other extended family and friends. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 1:30 pm, Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
