Stella Vest Neidert was born on September 21, 1927 to Marvin and Stella Green Vest. Born and raised in St. Louis, she graduated from Harris Teachers College in St. Louis with a Bachelor in Education and later received a Master's in Education from the University of Nevada, Reno.
She married Kalo Neidert on June 22, 1952 and they had five children, Edward (Marcelle), Karl, David (Laura), Wayne, and Meg. They also have five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband predeceased her in 2012. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Lawrence and Eugene.
Stella taught in Washoe County Schools for thirty years, including 24 years at Grace Warner Elementary School.
She was an active member of St. John's Presbyterian Church for 54 years, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Stephen Minister. After retirement, she was an active volunteer at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center and traveled widely with her husband. She and Kalo volunteered for several years with the National Forest Service and were active members of several RV clubs.
Stella passed peacefully at Tahoe-Pacific Hospital after a long illness on November 23, 2016, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be at Walton Funeral Home in Reno on Sunday, December 4 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.. The memorial service will be on January 7, at 2:00 p.m., at St. John's Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow in Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Easter Seals, www.easterseals.com/nevada/.
