Connie Jo Hartwell, 59, of Madison, Ind., formerly of Alexandria, passed from this life to be with the eternal father on Dec. 1, 2016. She was able to make it back home, one last time, after an extended stay in the hospital.
Connie was born May 8, 1957, in Anderson, to the late Nina Joann "Meatmaw" and Robert "Pops" Douglas. She attended 8th St. Elementary School and Anderson High School.
Connie was united in marriage to Jeffrey V. Hartwell of Alexandria, on Oct. 7, 1976. Jeff and Connie were blessed with two sons, Ryan H. and Reggie D. and one daughter, Molly J.
Even though Connie attended Ivy Tech and held a few jobs throughout her adult life, her greatest and most important job was as a wife and mother. She enjoyed caring for her family, tending to her garden, and coming up with and working on building projects. Connie loved to cook and bake and you could always find fresh treats and meals hot on the stove or countertop. She enjoyed decorating for Christmas and finding antiques at auctions, flea markets or yard sales to decorate her house and cabin with.
She looked forward to her trips to Florida, and went every chance she got. One accomplishment Connie liked to brag about was learning to ride a motorcycle for her 50th birthday. She bought a Harley Davidson and she and Jeff headed west to explore. She loved traveling and exploring with friends and family. Connie was always ready for a spur-of-the-moment adventure.
Connie was of Christian faith and has spent her retirement years in Madison, Ind.
Connie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jeff; her sons, Ryan Hartwell and Reggie Hartwell (Sunshine); 12 grandchildren, Katie, Ryan Jr., Brooklyn, Karson, Kylee, Irish, Duncan, Patrick, Grace, Ashton, Josie, and Azure; and great-grandchildren, Preston, Joanna, Eli, Ethan and Bentley. Also by her brother, Jeffery Douglas.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Molly Broyles; and brother, Bobby Douglas. She is surely reunited with her loved ones that she has missed so much.
Services honoring Connie's life and legacy will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Al Dayton officiating. Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Alexandria.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the services.
