OGDEN, UTAH - Elaine Amelia Parkinson Johnson, 73, an Idaho Falls and Rexburg area nurse, died December 17, 1982, at St. Benedict Hospital.
She was born April 1, 1909, in Rexburg, Idaho to Henry Greer and Hannah Arzetta Davidson Parkinson.
She spent her childhood in Rexburg where she attended grade school at the Adams and Washington elementary schools. In 1926 the family moved to Scott City, Kansas where she graduated from Scott City High in 1928. In 1930 her father died and the family moved back to Rexburg.
Several of her ancestors were midwives and she also received nursing training. She graduated from college with top honors and received her internship at the Idaho Falls LDS hospital.
On August 30, 1940 she married George Lazar Johnson II. They were divorced in 1943.
She lived in Honolulu for a time and while there she organized and developed a convalescing home for the aged. After working as a hospital administrator she went to California and graduated from Stanford University. At the age of 70 she retired from the board of directors of the Maunalani Hospital in Honolulu. She then moved to Ogden to live with her sister, Dona Mae Benson.
Survivors include two brothers and three sisters, Mrs. William (Helen) Anderson, Iona; Arzetta P. Coleman, Ucon; L. Merrill Parkinson, and Mrs. Leland (Dona) Benson, both of Ogden, Utah; Louis D. Parkinson, Scott City, Kansas; and one uncle, Harley Davidson, Rupert. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Henry, John, Archie, Kennith, and Donald Parkinson.
Burial will be in the family plot in the Sugar City Cemetery. By request of the deceased, a private service will be held at the cemetery.
