The Mitchells lived at Mitchelltown Hill on the north side of Port Bruce prior to 1876. He bought house on W side of Water street in 1876 at Port Bruce. Lived there until March 1880. Two daughters born. About 1878 Mitchell's wife met Alex McIntosh and became involved with him about 1880. In 1880 the Mitchells moved to Lawrence Station where he operated a hotel. For two years (about 1882). Then moved to Aylmer where he operated a hotel for two years (to about 1884). McIntosh was employed as a barber. In Spring of 1884 the Mitchells moved to St. Thomas. On April 5, 1885 Easter Sunday Samuel Mitchell knowing that his wife was having an affair with him, killed Alex McIntosh. Trial followed and Mitchell was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 10 years. He served and in about 1895/6 he returned to his job at brewery.
