Roger Leroy Mahoney, age 82 of Altoona, Iowa, son of Dr. L.F. and Viva (Howland) Mahoney was born August 29, 1934 in Clearfield, Iowa.
He entered into rest at Mitchell Village Care Center on November 28, 2016.
Roger grew up in Clearfield, Iowa and graduated from Clearfield Community School in 1953. He was very active in football, basketball and baseball. After high school he attended Commercial Extension in Omaha, Nebraska where he graduated as a Junior Accountant. As a youth, he joined the Methodist Church. Since that time, he has been a part of a Presbyterian Church, a Christian Church and then back to the Methodist Church.
In June of 1955 he was united in marriage to Leona Mae Morey. They were blessed with two daughters, Sandi and Karen.
After college, Roger entered the business world at Iowa-Des Moines National Bank which was later changed to Norwest Bank. He retired after 42 years of service. The name has since changed to Wells Fargo Bank.
Roger was a sports enthusiast, especially watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren playing football and soccer. He was also a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, University of Northern Iowa Panthers, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees. Other interests were watching TV, fishing and playing golf.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers Bill and Bob.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Leona of Altoona; children: Sandi (Mike) Sibley of Altoona and Karen (Allen) Bieghler of Altoona; 3 grandsons: Nick (Whitney) Sibley of Urbandale, Luke (Lacie) Sibley of Altoona and Logan Bieghler of Altoona; 1 step grandson: Thomas Mitchell Sibley of Missouri; great grandchildren: Geniveve Wingert, Easlynn Sibley, Colbie Sibley, Peyton Sibley and Ashtyn Sibley; 1 sister: Marilyn Zeller of Des Moines; nieces and nephews.
