They moved to Liberal, KS where Harlan was employed by Beech Aircraft. She worked as the secretary for the Seward County Extension Office for several years. She helped organize the Liberal Willowbend Ladies Golf Association and held several offices in the Liberal Women's Bowling Association.

In 1985, they moved to Wichita where she continued her involvement in bowling and golfing. The most important part of her life was her family. She was happiest when they were all together for the holidays, birthdays, etc. and she could cook for them.
