Services Pending For Farmer Who Took Own Life

ELKADER (Special) - Funeral services are pending at Witt funeral home in Elkader for George Meenan, 60, farmer residing near Communia, eight miles south of Elkader.

Mr. Meenan was found dead in his farm home at 6 p.m. Wednesday by his brother, Ferd. It is believed he died Monday evening of a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.

Reportedly, he had been despondent since the death of his wife a month ago. He was last seen Monday afternoon in Elkader.

Surviving are his brother, whose farm adjoins his, property, and three sisters.

Elkader, Ia. -- Services for George Meenan, 60, will be at 2 p.m. Sumday in Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church here with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery.

Mr. Meenan was found dead of gunshot wounds in his home Wednesday night. He was born July 5, 1897, in Read Township near Elkader. He married Dina Gusta in 1921. She died two weeks ago.
