KASTER, REV. ALFRED DONALD 'FATHER AL' Originally from Long Lake, Mn. Fr. Al passed away peacefully at the home of his brother Bill, in Long Lake, Mn. on 11/28/16. Born 11/25/31 to German parents, Fredrich and Martha, Alfred was the 3rd of 7 children: Bernard, Gertrude, Robert, Paul, William and Stephen. Father Al's education included both public and parochial schools. After graduating high school in 1949, Alfred went on to graduate from the Crosier Seminary in 1952. Under the supervision of the Duluth Mn. Diocese. Al completed his Philosophy and Theology education at the Benedictine Seminary. Alfred was then ordained a Priest by Bishop Francis Schenk St the Church of St. George in Long Lake, Mn. Fr. Al's first assignments included serving people in Ely, Duluth and as a Pastor in Cloquet Mn. Fr. Al served the Duluth Diocese for 25 years until being transferred to California, due to health reasons. In California he served as a Priest in the Sacramento Diocese for 30 years before retiring from active ministry. Fr. Al has spent his retirement assisting parishes in Northern California as well as his 'work vacation' at St. Anthony Church in Ely, Mn. Fr. Al returned yearly to St. Anthony Church, his first assignment, to serve the people of the parish as well as visit his 'favorite fishing spot' whenever time allowed. Father Al will be missed by his brother Bill, sister -in- law Pat, cousin Mike and his wife Kit, and all of his many friends in the Duluth Mn. and Sacramento Dioceses. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, Dec. 3rd at 10 am. at the Church of St. George in Long Lake, Mn. Reviewal will take place at the church at 9-10am. proceeding the funeral mass.
