The son of a farmer, assisting within the IX Compagnia di Sanità of the Celio Hospital in Rome during the Great War, during the first air raids of February 1944 that affected the abbey, he opened the latter's doors to the population. Debilitated by illness and nearly blind, he died on March 10, 1966 after a dedicated life of long and meticulous work.
