David L. Dutcher
David L. Dutcher, 34, died June 1 after a year-long battle with AIDS. Dave as a vital, exuberant man who loved the ocean, redwoods, egrets, gladiolas and youth. For over five years Dave and his lover Rick lived a rustic life in the Santa Cruz Mountains where they had a voluntary simplicity. Dave's favorite pastime was to play butting heads with the goats and kids.
Dave continued his life after the woods by being an accomplished carpenter, gardener, and mason. He will be sorely missed by Rick, his lover of nine years: and by his very supportive family, Nancy, Alana, Sojo, Jacque, Judy, Tala, and Larry. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dave's Gay family, the Pacific Center in Berkeley, the Shanti workers, and to the staffs of Wards 86 and 5B, whose care was well beyond any call of duty, and could only be attributed to love.
Local funeral services were held Tuesday, June 4, at 8 p.m. with the Reverend Michael Hiller officiating under the direction of Tom Simpson Funeral Counselor. Inurnment private. In lieu of flowers or donations, please contribute your time to someone who has AIDS. It means a lot! For additional information contact Tom Simpson Funeral Counselor at 626-3340.
