The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in the Rotunda of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church.
A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with the Reverend Rusty Benton and Reverend Katie Sloan officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
Born on November 2, 1921, in Mecklenburg County, NC, Mr. Houston was the son of Daniel J. Houston, Sr. and Pearl Stilwell Houston. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, George Houston, his sister, Willie Mae Ford and special friend, Virginia Stikeleather.
Mr. Houston served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an airplane mechanic. He retired from City Chevrolet after 31 years of service in the body shop. Mr. Houston was a hard worker all his life. Over the years, he enjoyed planting his garden and tending to his cows. Mr. Houston was always doing for others. He was a loving uncle to his nieces and great nephew and great niece.
He is survived by his nieces, Cindy Ford, Cathy Ford and Carol Carriker (Scott); great nephew, Kevin Carriker; and great niece, Elizabeth Carriker.
He will be missed by everyone.
