Jean Logan, 79 year old Woodward resident, died Monday, November 28, 2016 at her home in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Lloyd Stovall officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

On July 2, 1937 Jean Logan was born to Viola (Canning) and Homer Wilson in Guthrie, OK. She was one of seven brothers and sisters. As a child she survived a big flood in Guthrie by hanging on to a fence for dear life until rescue. She started working early in life. During junior high and high school she worked through her lunch hour and after school making sandwiches at the local sandwich shop. She loved singing in the high school choir and graduated from Guthrie High School in 1955. She met her husband, Bill Logan, while they both worked at the Greyhound bus station in Oklahoma City. They went to Stockton, Kansas on November 26, 1956 to marry. From then on they were seldom apart. In 1966, Bill and Jean moved their family to Woodward Oklahoma.

Over the years Jean worked at Toot and Tell convenience store, Taylor’s Answering Service and J & R Transport. She also kept the books for their business “The Specialty Company”. Jean was very involved in her children’s lives and activities. Jean volunteered at Elm Street Baptist church counting collection monies, serving on the finance committee and faithfully working at the JOHN 3:16 HOUSE distributing free clothing to many members of the community. She always had a heart for the disabled and those in need and taught her family by example to have the same compassion for others.

After retirement Jean and Bill went to as many of their grandchildren’s activities as possible. They spent many summers in Colorado creating a tradition of the grandkids joining them for a week or two each summer. The only rule was that they had to be potty trained before they could go. With five grandkids in a six year time span there was a lot of love, laughter and lasting memories made during these yearly adventures. The grandkids referred to themselves as the “Oklahoma Five” and often reminisce about the times they spent together in the mountains with their grandparents and each other. Jean always made each child feel very special and cared for. She planned vacations, outings, meals and snacks specific to the grandkid’s delight rather than for their own enjoyment.

Jean is survived by her son Marty and Debbie Logan, her daughter Sherwana and Terry Gathers, her five grandchildren Cherice and Jared Fox and their children Rylynn and Rustyn, Marissa and Shamar Malone, Jake and Kristen Logan, Danielle Logan, and Chantz Gathers as well as her brother Revis Wilson and sister Shirlene Crews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Logan, her daughter-in-law Deidre Logan, her parents Viola and Homer Wilson, brothers Russ, Raymond and RayGene Wilson and sister Fran Barger. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Food Bank.
