The funeral of Mrs. George Wesley Smith, 78, who died suddenly on Friday afternoon, was held in the Mulhearn Funeral home, Sunday at 3 p.m. with Msgr. J. C. Marsh, pastor of the St. Matthew's church, officiating.

Pallbearers were Fred Browning, Judge Carey Ellis, W. Davis Cotton, Warren Hunt, Horace Mangham, George Fink, Judge David I. Garrett, and M. C. Redmond. Interment was in Memorial Park cemetery.

There had been a Rosary service held Friday night and a mass of requiem was held in St. Matthew's church Saturday morning.

Mrs. Smith was active in many clubs and was a leader in the cause of woman suffrage, having held office on the board of aldermen in Rayville, soon after woman suffrage became enacted into law.

Surviving are a son, Waldorf Smith, Monroe; a grandson, George Wesley Smith, second; two granddaughters, Mrs. Acie Batterton, Shreveport; Mrs. Mary Harges, New York, three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Maude Stevens Smith and Mrs. Fortha Paugh Moore, both of Terre Haute, Ind.
