SULPHUR -- Carol Louis “Lou” Vance, 58, died peacefully Saturday Jan. 24, 2004, surrounded by his family in his home.

He was born in Alexandria and had lived in Sulphur most of his life. He was a charter member of Millwright Local 1476 and a self-employed welder and owner of Lou’s Welding Service. His craftsmanship is evident throughout the city of Sulphur through his fabrication of many large buildings. For the past nine years, he drove a school bus for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He enjoyed working for himself, welding, woodworking projects and was an avid fisherman and RVer.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jane Mounce Vance; one son, Steven Louis Vance and his wife, Tara Guillory Vance, of Sulphur; two daughters, Lennise Dronet and her husband, David Dronet, of Sulphur and Theresa Fessler and her husband, Jon Fessler, of Manitowoc, Wisc.; his mother, Mary LaFleur Jones Stout, and stepfather, Byron Stout Jr.; two brothers, Kenneth E. Vance of Alvin, Texas, and Larry W. Vance and his wife, Elva Vance, of Sulphur; one sister, Joy Jones Abshire and her husband, Joseph “Bo” Abshire, of Sulphur; and seven grandchildren, Caty, Chrissy, Chris, Morgan, DJ, Ty and Nick.

Pallbearers will be Bo Abshire, Jarred Abshire, Andy Clopton, Darren Vance and Chris Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Dykes, Cyril Leonard, Robert Roy and Russell Roy.

His funeral will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home, 2051 E. Napoleon St., on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. Craig Peters will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation is 2:30-10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com
