Flora L. “Flo” (Harper) Anderson, age 93 of Elwood and formerly of Frankton, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following a long and fulfilling life. She was born March 4, 1923 in Frankton, the daughter of George C. and Marie Pauline (Elsner) Harper. Flo was a registered nurse and was well known for working in Dr. Scea’s office in Elwood for more than 26 years. She last retired in 1985 from the Ask-a-Nurse division of Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a long nursing career. She was a 1941 graduate of Frankton High School and later graduated from the Indianapolis City Hospital School of Nursing. Flo enlisted in the U.S. Army and served her country as a nurse during World War II. She married Billy E. “Bill” Anderson on December 24, 1956 and they shared nearly 58 years of marriage together. Flo was a devoted member of the Frankton United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a 75-year member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and was also a 50-year member and Past President of the Beta Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Elwood. Flo was also formerly a board member of the Visiting Nurse Association; was active with Meals on Wheels program; and helped serve breakfast at Youth for Christ events for many years. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, and gardening. Flo was very devoted to her family - especially her grandchildren. She believed that her greatest achievement was raising three children to become loving, caring individuals and good citizens. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Flo’s family includes 3 children, Greg (Patty) Drake of Kokomo, Jeanne Jones of Fishers, and Marianne (Jay) Whitaker of Anderson; 6 grandchildren, Holly (Brad) Powell, Heidi (Jim) Abel, Geoff (Nicole) Cook, Erin (Darlene) Cook, Hannah Whitaker, and Eliana Whitaker; 6 great-grandchildren, Logan, Sydney, Payton, Colin, Mya, and Micah; sister, Millicent A. (Bob) Harrison of Frankton; brother-in-law, Joseph Anderson of Bradenton, FL; and several nieces and nephews;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Anderson who died in 2014; 2 brothers, George C. Harper, Jr. and John E. Harper; and 2 sisters, Jean Marie Harper and Marina Jane Cox.

A funeral service celebrating Flo’s life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Frankton United Methodist Church in Frankton with Rev. Gary Elsten and Rev. Nathan Whybrew officiating. Burial will follow in the K. of P. – I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Frankton. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 to 7 PM on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood and will include 3 consecutive memorial services by the Order of Eastern Star, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, and Nursing Honor Guard - all beginning at 6:00 PM. The Nurses Honor Guard will provide standing vigil throughout the visitation.
