Wilson was in Co D 1st Regiment Provisional E.M.M., serving from September 27 to December 7, 1863. He was also in the 46th EMM. He enlisted in Co K 39th MO Infantry under Captain Lyle December 12, 1864 in Lancaster, MO. He was mustered in January 1865 at "B Barracks, MO". His son, John W Hickman, filed for a pension as a Guardian Minor in December 1890 based on Wilson's last service.

MO Census lists the Hickmans living next to the John Walton and the Starling Gunn families, both landowners on the 1876 Randolph Co Atlas in Salt Spring Twp 54 Range 15 Sections 16 & 17, about 1 1/4 miles north of this cemetery. Wilson was listed as a carpenter, with a Person Estate value of $100.
