Miriam Daisy Beck Myers was born on Jan. 19, 1928, in Nieuw Nickerie, Suriname, South America, to Rudolf Jacob Louis Beck and Ester Beatrice Durban. She fell asleep with our Savior on 8 May 8, 2016, at home in Collegedale. Miriam was the eighth child and only girl in a family of ten siblings. She graduated from Caribbean Training College in 1948, completing studies in Secretarial Science. Moving to Canada in 1955, she studied at Canadian Union College, where she met Cyril Alexander Myers. They were married on July 28, 1957, and maintained their love for nearly 58 years; their blessed union brought seven children into their family. She valued a good education above everything but a loving relationship with Jesus. Completing her Bachelor of Theology in 1957, she also graduated from Andrews University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1972 and a Master of Arts in Education in 1978. She and her husband began 14 years of active ministry in the Lake Region and South Central Conferences of Seventh-day Adventists in 1959. Daisy was a gifted salesperson, working her way through college as a colporteur. She and Cyril were also gifted with the ability raise money. Their ministry raised the needed funds to build four church facilities. All four remain today. Her teaching career began in the public schools in Meridian, Miss., and continued in Benton Harbor, Mich. Recognized as a very effective Reading Specialist, over the years many young professionals from all disciplines returned to her classroom to thank her for encouraging them to excel in school. Daisy was an accomplished pianist, introducing her children to music at an early age. Four of the seven became successful music teachers. That love of music continues in her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family, spending holidays together and attending events that involved her children and grandchildren. Dearly missed by her family, she is survived by her six children, Sharon Ramos, Michael (Denise), Candace Myers Nesmith (Douglas), Lois Myers-Mirmotahari, Cyril Jr. (Marcella) and James; 17 grandchildren, Christina, Julian, Michael "Aander", Esther, Josef, Johannes, Micaela, Silviane, Christianna, Danyelle, Alexander, Angelina, Calvin, Miriam, Mina, Jonathan and Gabrielle; one great-grand-daughter, Laila, and one great-grandson. Her beloved husband Cyril passed away on May 9, 2015. Nine brothers and her son, Paul, also preceded her in death. Arrangements are by Covenant Funeral & Crematory, Crox family owned and operated, www.CovenantFuneral.com.
