Services for Dr. Rex Donald Carter, 75, of Vandalia, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Vandalia First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Joel Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in Vandalia Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, with Masonic services provided by Vandalia Masonic Lodge 491 at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Bienhoff Funeral Home.
Dr. Carter passed away at 1:07 p.m. at Tri County Care Center in Vandalia.
He was born February 24, 1941 in Peoria, Ill., the son of Clarence and Helen Nicholson Carter.
He was married to Ann Elizabeth Vaughn on June 5, 1966 in Paris, MO. and she survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Geoffrey (Susan) Carter of Bay Village, Ohio, and Dr. Jon (Hayley) Carter of Charleston, South Carolina; one daughter, Elizabeth (Jason) Loughran of Iowa City, Iowa; and eight grandchildren, Jackson, Ethan, and Piper Carter of Charleston, SC, Carolyn, Hayden and Delaney Carter of Bay Village, OH, and Ellie and Mia Loughran of Iowa City, IA.
Dr. Carter was a 1959 graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria. He then attended three years of pre-med at Bradley University in Peoria, and then graduated in 1966 from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served his country in the US Navy from November of 1967 to September of 1969. He and Ann moved to Farber in 1969 and then Vandalia in 1970 where he operated his practice until his retirement in January of 2008. He was a lifetime member of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Association. Being active in his community, he was a member of the Vandalia First Presbyterian Church and had served as both a Deacon and as an Elder, and a member of the Vandalia Masonic Lodge 491. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jackson Carter, Ethan Carter, Hayden Carter, Dr. Joseph Molnar, Rennie Davis, and Dru Vaughn.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vandalia First Presbyterian Church or Community Loving Care Hospice of Bowling Green.
