Mary was the daughter of William Adamson and Eleanor Frances Prescott Adamson. She was raised at Germantown at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where her father was a merchant. He died when she was only four years of age and Mary was then raised by her mother and her mother’s sister, Hannah Prescott, in a household of servants. Mary married to Gilbert Joseph Palen on 11 June 1895 at Germantown. Mary and Gilbert had no children. They divorced sometime between 1898 and 1908. Mary took back her maiden name and never remarried. She returned to her family home at Germantown. Her last known residence was at Fletcher, North Carolina where I believe she relocated to sometime after 1916. Mary died as a result of heart disease after only two days in a hospital at Asheville.
