Painter of historical and religious subjects, active in Cincinnati from 1853. He was at one time in partnership with George Lang.He studied in Munich during the 1860s but returned to the US around 1867.He was involved with the Institute of Catholic Art in Lexington and decorated a number of Benedictine churches.The American-born painter Frank Duveneck was an assistant in these projects in 1868-1869.He also worked in Montreal and decorated a church at Saint-Romuald d'Echemin, Quebec Province, in 1868,and was living in the US in 1906
