Mrs. Abbie Esther Muller Sammis, 100 years old, formerly of Unionville, died in her West Virginia home on Oct. 7, 2008.
She was the wife of the late Robert W. Sammis, Sr. Abbie had an extraordinary life, living in Europe, Germany during Hitler's reign, New York City, working for Senator Rabenold. She went to college at Katherine Gibbs and Hunter College. After her marriage to Bob Sammis Sr., she was a teacher at Libertytown School and then secretary at Linganore High School under Harry O. Smith. She and her family resided in Unionville for 40 years.--
Abbie, known to most as "Nana"--is survived by her three children, Bob Jr., of Virginia, Carolyn of West Virginia and Diana of Texas, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held this Saturday at noon at Carolyn and Abbie's home at 206 Giles Mill Road, Bunker Hill, W.Va. 304-229-4112 .
