Diana Medicine Stone Masi Mia (Eagle Woman) 68, of Bismarck, ND, was promoted to Glory on Wednesday, November 22, 2016.
Born September 6, 1948 in Elbowoods, North Dakota. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Medicine Stone and Vivian Lone Fight Medicine Stone.
Diana worked for The Three Affiliated Tribes tribal court, the ND State Penitentiary, and the ND State Capitol.  Diana received her education at The University of Mary graduating in 1986 with a BS in Social Work. She was a licensed social worker at The Dakota Center of Independent Living for 29 years, retiring in 2013.
As a social worker, Diana was involved in with the Head Injury Conference for many years, advocating for Patient Benefits and quality of life.  She shared her wealth of knowledge in her career and made many lifelong friendships with her clients and families.
Diana was especially proud of her heritage.  She researched and delved into service with her involvement with Shehek-Shote Returns Bicentennial Anniversary 1809-2009 “The Nu’Eta are still here.” Diana is a direct descendent of Sheheke. She was also involved with Painted Woods Interpretive Sign that told the origin and history of Painted Woods.
Diana’s hobbies included researching the Nu’eta (Mandan) family history, helping with cultural and Language preservation of The Nu’eta.  She loved the outdoors including the “old place” in Twin Buttes. Spending time with her family and friends, especially with her grandchildren.  Diana loved collecting horses and turtle figurines. In her spare time Diana loved to try her luck at her favorite machines at Prairie Knights Casino, and travelling to and exploring new places.
She is survived by; two sons, Craig Hurkes Sr. of Bismarck , ND, and Dallas Reynolds, Bismarck, ND her oldest grandson she took as her son; a daughter, Vivian Hurkes(Philip Reeves) of Bismarck, ND; 14 grandchildren, Breyana BraveBull, Ernest Stone, Jerrod Jr., Donald, Cedar Diana Mavis, and Frederick Theodore Grant, Samantha, Deltin Arrow, Craig Jr. and Aiden Hurkes, Sierra Rain and Boo-boo Sun,  Justice Calvin and Benny Eugene Howling Wolf, and two great-grandchildren, Fallon and Tuff Hall of New Town ND. Two sister’s Mavis Stone of Twin Buttes, N.D; Anna Rubia of Rio Rancho, NM and Frederick Rubia of Bismarck, ND. Niece/Goddaughter Mary Ellen Sun (Clarence), Nephew Dennis Howling Wolf Jr. (Jessica) and many other close relatives.
Preceded in death her paternal grandparents Medicine Stone and Bessie High Eagle, maternal grandparents Ted Lone Fight Sr. and Mary Young Bird-Lone Fight. Her parents Ernest and Vivian (Lone Fight) Medicine Stone. Her brothers Calvin and Benny, and a niece Stephanie Medicine Stone and her beloved dachshund Oscar.
A gathering will be held in Bismarck for friends and family from 12:00 – 2:00 PM Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Bismarck Funeral Home.  Funeral procession will proceed to Twin Buttes at 3:00 p.m.
The Wake will be held in Twin Buttes, ND, Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 5PM at the Memorial Hall. Funeral services will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at 10AM, followed by Feed/Giveaway.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 27, 2016 at St Mary’s Cemetery in Bismarck, ND.
