MARION, Va. Mary Ella Mann Asbury went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Leta and Garnett Mann, of White Gate, Virginia; and by her sister, Frances of Roanoke, Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Robert I. Asbury of Marion, Virginia; and her son, Robert M. Asbury of Knoxville, Tennessee. Mary devoted her working career to healthcare. As a registered nurse graduated from The Medical College of Virginia and during various times in her career, she served in the operating room at Marion General Hospital, Smyth County Community Hospital, worked in kidney dialysis and concluded her long career with the Smyth County Health Department. She was devoted to her patients and was grateful for the friendship of her long time colleagues, Becky Goble, Helen Richardson, and Betty Russell among many others. At home, Mary was an avid artist, cook and mother. She raised and spoiled a succession of four beloved schnauzers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, patients, and colleagues. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Smyth County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1124 Marion, VA 24354. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held Monday, November 28, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, Virginia with Pastor Mark Asbury officiating.
