Edith V. Hammond, entered into eternal life November 21, 2016 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born on February 20, 1939 in Dalzell S.C. to Henry and Hattie Richardson. She had seven siblings, one brother and six sisters.

Edie, as she was known to family and friends, met the love of her life, Willie Hammond, or Bill, in church. Bill was in the Air Force stationed at nearby Shaw AFB in Sumter, S.C.. They married June 1, 1957 and began their married lives as a military couple. Their first child, daughter Sylvia was born at Shaw AFB in May 1958. They soon transferred to a base in Germany and in 1961, their son Gregory was born. Several assignments in the Philippines, New Mexico and several bases in California followed. Edie worked full time throughout her marriage. She was employed by the Army and Air Force Exchange Services, AAFES, for some 30 years primarily working in Base Exchanges. She retired from the Base Exchange on McClellan AFB in North Highlands, California. Edie was a Super Mom to her two children managing successfully to attend recitals and games, make hundreds of cookies and cupcakes, supervise homework and school projects all while working fulltime.

Edie was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing her homegrown vegetables with coworkers and friends. She grew beautiful roses and made heirloom quilts. She was known for her wit and kindness. After Edie and Bill retired they enjoyed visiting their son and his family in San Diego, taking extended trips to their condo in Monterey and visiting their daughter in Australia and Bermuda. When Edie and Bill visited family and friends , everyone knew they wouldn't arrive empty handed because they always stopped first to buy a car full of groceries. Edie and Bill would spend most of their visit cooking because they found it relaxing to cook with family and friends.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Hattie Richardson, sisters Marguerite Thompson and Marie Jackson, and brother James Richardson. Edith is survived by husband Willie Hammond, daughter Sylvia L Hammond, son Gregory A Hammond (Seshu), grand-children K #rishna and Leela Hammond, sisters Rosalie Strong, Ida Mason, Lois Dyson and Terry Clark, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends Geneva Burroughs, Melvin and Pacita Cruver, and Tammy Arnold.
