Dora Nicely James, 94, of Stanford, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Stanford. She was born November 18, 1918 in Mount Vernon, to the late Ben and Pearl Cromer Nicely. She was the widow of the late Leo James. She worked for American Greetings Inc. for 15 years, managed the Rowland Restaurant for several years, and was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include: one grandson, Jimmy (Tammy) Horn of Stanford; one great grandson, Tyler Horn of Stanford; one brother, Willard Nicely of Brodhead; one sister, Doris Blanton of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: one daughter, Lois Horn; two grandsons; four brothers, Willie, Junior, Ed, and Robert Nicely; and two sisters, Geneva James and Ora Meredith. Funeral services were Monday, March 25, 2013 with Dr. Mike James officiating at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel (Stanford). Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford. Casketbearers were: Jerry Nicely, Tim Meredith, John Meredith, Benny Blanton, John Kolosa, and Lewis Bailey. Honorary bearers were: Bobby James, Ralph Horn, Ralph Nicely, Frankie Gooch, and Dan Harmon.
